The Khilafat Movement collapsed following the end of the non-cooperation movement and Gandhi's arrest

When the Bambatha Rebellion broke out in the colony of Natal, the then 36-year-old Gandhi, despite sympathising with the Zulu rebels, encouraged Indian South Africans to form a volunteer stretcher-bearer unit
The Transvaal government promulgated a new Act compelling registration of the colony's Indian and Chinese populations
At age 37, although married, he vowed to abstain from sexual relations
